At Eyecare Leaders, our eyewear consultants take very serious to help you to select your very own personal eyewear perfectly made for your face, match your style and character, and designed to accompany for you a long time.
First our eyewear consultants help you to be aware of your own facial features:
- The heart-shaped face: Often described as having a triangular shape, a board forehead and a narrow chin. The best lens shape for this type of face adds a bit of “weight” to the lower half of the face. Deeper and oval shapes that emphasize the side of the face are particularly advantageous. They balance out the narrowness of the chin.
- The narrow-shaped face: A narrow, rectangular face. A person with narrow-shaped face is considered hard to choose an eyewear. In this case, lower lens shapes can achieve positive results. They compensate for the narrowness of the face. The lower part of the eyewear can be oval or rounded. For men, the right eyewear can emphasize striking facial features. Women tend to prefer eyewear that softens their facial features
- The square-shape face: is rare and has striking jaw and temple features. The width and height of this face shape is usually identical. Eyewear can be advantageous here if the lower part is oval or rounded, or if the upper part is open. Eyewear that extends beyond the cheekbones also has a positive effect. Men with square-shaped faces can underscore their striking facial features with square lens shapes, whereas soft lens shapes minimize the dominance of the chin. Women tend to prefer eyewear that softens their facial features. Flatter lens shapes and delicate temples are ideal for square-shaped faces because they achieve a positive lengthening of the face.
- The oval-shaped face: The upper and lower spheres of the face are identical. People with oval-shaped faces are considered to be the ideal “eyewear face”. They can wear any shape and model.
- The round-shaped face: characterized by soft curves on the outer facial lines typically want to lengthen the appearance of their face. Soft shapes that also incorporate striking lines are recommended. Square lens shapes give a round chin a more striking appearance, whereas round lens shapes make the face appear even fuller.
Correctly shaped eyewear balances the proportions of the face and gives it a more harmonious appearance.
Second, the individual personality and lifestyle of the person are also very important factors. Pauline Voce, an eyewear type advisor for Silhouette in London, has been advising people in their search for the perfect eyewear says “The personality of the wearer plays the decisive role in the selection of eyewear. Having friends or family accompany you may help create a lively atmosphere but it hardly makes the selection any easier because they are usually looking for eyewear that they would choose for themselves.” Our eyewear consultants have learned and have experiences to help you selecting an eyewear to match your style and character.
Tips from Pauline Voce for selecting the right eyewear which are most noticeably distinguished by their differently shaped lenses:
- The shape of the face determines the shape of the lenses. In principle, the shape of the lenses should be different than the shape of the face. For example, no round lenses for round-shaped faces.
- Eyewear should not dominate the face but rather harmoniously complement it. A face gives an asymmetric impression when the pupils are not centered in the middle of the lenses. For this reason, depending on your face type, you should ensure that your pupils are centered in the middle of the lenses.
- The upper line of the eyewear should run parallel to the eyebrows. The eyebrow should be above the edge of the eyewear. With a maximum distance between the eyebrow and lens of 1 centimeter. The eyebrow should never be behind the lens.
The bridge should be properly positioned, resting snugly on the nose. Positioned to high, the nose appears longer. Positioned to low shortens the appearance of the nose. If the eyewear is positioned too low on the nose, commonly seen in older people when they are reading, the nose not only appears shorter but the person appears older as well!
