(NAPS) – Consumers should not be short-sighted about choosing quality eyewear.
“Eyewear is one of the most important fashion accessories for men and women, yet some consumers will pay top dollar for an exquisitely tailored suit or fine leather shoes and balk at the cost of eyeglasses,” Says Carol Norbeck of the vision council’s envision Yourself program.
Norbeck advises shoppers to consider the concept of cost-per-wear or how much it costs them each time a piece of clothing or an accessory is worn.
Typical eyewear consisting of frames, lenses, lens tint and coating costs an average of $225. Worn daily for two years, this eyewear translates to a cost-efficient 31 cents a day. A business suit costing $350 without shirt, blouse, belt, accessories or dry cleaning calculates to $3.24 a day. This figure assumes the suit is worn three times per month over three years.
“It doesn’t make a lot of sense to buy an expensive new suit, a dress or a pair of shoes you’ll only wear a few times if your glasses, something you’ll wear often, do not look their best,” says Norbeck.
